Steamboat Lake, Colorado Permanently fixed to its island deep inside a frozen-over lake, this tree probably knows a little more about loneliness than most people. That may be a rather sad spin on the story, but perhaps it can also be a comfort to us in our lonesome moments. A reminder that our lives may not be so bad at all.
The first light flowing over the top of a pointy peak, a veil of mist hovering over the trickling creek below, a lone set of pioneer pines and a few vibrant wildflowers just for good measure. Photographers are strange creatures, as the more serene our surroundings, the more frantic we are in trying to photograph them before they vanish.
Lake Elbert, Mount Zirkel Wilderness, CO It is the aftermath of one of the most amazing evenings I've ever seen. I recorded this while hiking back to camp in the twilight, squeezing those last few beautiful connections out of the dusk as the magenta light of sunset slowly faded away.
