Lake Elbert, Mount Zirkel Wilderness, CO It is the aftermath of one of the most amazing evenings I've ever seen. I recorded this while hiking back to camp in the twilight, squeezing those last few beautiful connections out of the dusk as the magenta light of sunset slowly faded away.
Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado The spherical cactus in Colorado's Sange de Cristo mountains shows off complexity and order of even plant-scale landscapes. While it may surprise you, I did not actually artificially desaturate the background to the cactus; the plant was growing on top of an unusual bed of purely gray lichen. Which begs the age old question of art, life, and imitation.
Steamboat Lake, Colorado Props to this little pine tree for withstanding such a harsh winter. I suppose that's what it's made to do, but when the much larger and much better insulated me is sitting next to it, shivering in the frigid wind, its stoicism certainly does seem impressive.
